Cambodia Stand Firm on 'Kun Khmer' for SEA Games and Include Wearing Krama in Terms of Competition

PHNOM PENH: The Secretary-General of the Cambodian SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC), Vath Chamroeun, said during a press conference on the Kun Khmer sporting event to be held at the 2023 SEA Games, that wearing a krama headband is now also included in the terms of competition.

He said that all seven countries have agreed with Cambodia on the use of the krama headbands with the flags of each respective Southeast Asian country. Each country is also free to use the armband of their own choice — Cambodian athletes wear a traditional armband made of raw yarn, with the belief that this supports the spirit of the fighters.

"We are determined on the use of krama with [each country's] flag on front. Other countries can use their own flag, but they must use the same Krama," said the CAMSOC Secretary-General.

He further confirmed that this identification will be officially implemented in Khmer boxing arenas both domestically and abroad.

It should be noted that so far, seven countries in the ASEAN region, including Cambodia, are set to participate in the Kun Khmer martial arts competition in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
